taking the plunge
I woke up this morning to a clogged up toilet.
Plunger in hand, I set in to make things right!
How can you start the day with a blocked toilet drain?!
As I was plunging, I had a thought..
I’m so glad its my toilet .. and not me!
Blessed are You Hashem, our G-d, King of the universe,
Who created the human with wisdom
and created within him many openings and many cavities.
It is obvious and known before Your Throne of Glory
It is obvious and known before Your Throne of Glory
that if but one of them were to be ruptured
or but one of them were to be blocked
it would be impossible to survive and to stand before You.
Blessed are You Hashem, Who heals wondrously
This morning, I said my morning blessings with renewed vigor
thank you hashem for making it all work
my body, my heart, my brain, my mind
thank you for giving me my soul back
thank you for giving me another chance
or but one of them were to be blocked
it would be impossible to survive and to stand before You.
Blessed are You Hashem, Who heals wondrously
This morning, I said my morning blessings with renewed vigor
thank you hashem for making it all work
my body, my heart, my brain, my mind
thank you for giving me my soul back
thank you for giving me another chance
in a working body
in a working world
and for those days when things are on the blink -
and for those days when things are on the blink -
thank you for all the friendly plungers who help me unclog the blockages!

I love that quote at the end. Awesome post. Great you could realize this lesson from a clogged toilet.
excellent post. and it wasn't even that long. :-D
we definitely take it for granted. Just ask older people who have issues in that area. They will readily tell you how important it is.
Great lesson.
Very nice anonym00ks..i like the way u think...
Would be nice to have a plunger that works for clogged arteries..lol
as for Hemnigways comment..
The Gemara actually...talks about the different pleasures and mentions one called "shimush"...which at first the Gemara thinks is sex..but then says cant be because it weakens you..so the conclusion is..its a bowel movement..
So true!
I had a friend, who after an operation, couldn't go to the loo at all for two days (for number one...ahem) and she was in agony- she has never taken for granted Asher Yatzar again!
dunno. plunging at toilet is the worst thing in the world.
i assume you used a plunger?
try doing it with your bare hands.
crubou
LOL!!
m00ks,
you've come a long way..
young skywalker..
[still LOLing]
kasamba-i went thru a similar experience after a surgery i had in high school...i too do not take asher yotzar for granted...and for years after (when we had to write papers on what we are grateful for, or discussions that included 'baruch hashem' etc) i often brought up how fortunate i feel to be able to use the bathroom healthily...and sadly enough so many people simply laugh...im happy to see that you, anonym00kie, can appreciate the gift that not e/o has...
do you realize that its girls who come up with these mostly.
socialworker/frustrated mom:
you know it’s going to be a good day when you can find something positive about a clogged toilet!
a Frum Idealist:
you know.. I was dreading someone mentioning the length :)
I just didn’t think it was the kind of topic anyone would want me to get unnecessarily verbal about!
David:
thanks for that piece of Torah, I love finding out that something I’ve experienced turns out to be in there
kasamba:
the key is for those of us, who haven’t gotten through that, to learn the lesson from others!
s.J.:
plunging into the toilet probably would be the worst thing in the world (trainspotting anyone?) but your suggestion to plunge plungerless isn't any better!
Yuck!
gheemaker:
I knew you’d get a kick out of this one - my partner_in_poop!
the sabra:
I agree..poop is no laughing matter..
well maybe sometimes it is!
trixies86:
girls who come up with what? poop related blog posts?
Awesome post! And so true indeed! we need to focus on the positive in every situation! (Not bad coming from a venter, heh?)
Thanks, Anon. That was truly beautiful. I almost can't wait till my toilet clogs so that I can use a plunger and be reminded of this inspiring lesson.
just shows you can learn something from everything in life.
even the stinky things.
i will learn from your experience though!
it wasn't a suggestion.
it was once s/t i [very yery very] unfortunately had to do.
and still getting therapy for,
rcsyd
Yes you are so right :).
Amazing how you manage to learn somethng from every situation.
Wisdom aside, I hope you were able to fix it?
Lakewood Venter:
maybe one day youll switch over to this team..
hisbonenus:
I hope you have a second bathroom in the house!
sarah:
sometimes it takes the stink hitting the fan to open our eyes.
s.J.:.
why -o- why would that ever be a option? are there no starbucks near you? public bathrooms? plumbers? bushes??
socialworker/frustrated mom:
ooh I love the sound of that :)
pragmatician:
You’re right, halfway through the day I was about to update my post to whine about the toilet not unplugging, but in the end, with the help of my moms brilliant ideas I got it to unclog!
a clean unclogged toilet never looked so pretty!
think counselor. in camp. an under equipt camp. and you've got a group little boys with big appetites and teeny bladders.
thank god it wasn't full of organic matter.
just paper pulp.
grwhhjo
s.j.:
oh wow
that
is
so
disturbing.
maybe because i just experienced it -i still have the visuals in my mind...
Mookie, you are so twisted and I love it!!!!
I must admit I very often forget to say a bracha acharona but one thing I never forget to say is Asher Yatzar... I totally agree with this. So nice to relate to this!
mashals from eveything

Wow, this post gave me a new take on life and much to be thankful for. Thank goodness for plumbing.
This is a realy cute post, and so true. It's odd that we take these things for granted. Hmm...
