the WHY CHEAP ART? manifesto

art grants me freedom from self-imposed confinement!
art rescues me from the undertow of modern madness!
art is an aphrodisiac to cure the mundane!
if fear is the mind killer, then art is the life support!

tell me what art is to you...

once again, thanks gheemaker

wonderfully expressed!
I love art - that is - looking at and studying art - in museusms and the like
I don't draw - unless you count 'stick men' - lol
but i can lose myself in art
I should make more of an effort to go out and enjoy it - I don't really
nevertheless
it is certainly an aphrodisiac to cure the mundane

btw - here's your official invitation, Mookie - I told you, you'd get one...
so true to my word...
come visit MY BLOG!!!
yikes! help! what did i get myself into? lol

intresting point.

art does belong to the people.
is it helpful? 100%

but 'soothes pain'?
'fights war and stupidity'?
'like good bread'?

sounds like gay left winger-isms to me.

the only way i know--> who says overpriced museum art is any more 'art' than your blog or your stick figures. if its an expression of your creativity its art.

s.j.--> sure its gay leftwinger-isms, but this blog is about paradigm shifting, maybe they actually have something worth listening to?
as for what art is..
bread fills your tummy, art fills your soul.
if you ever wrote a poem or drew a picture when you wre suffering and felt relief from the creative expression, art soothed your pain.
and if you consider that wars, fighting, and discord is caused by tortured egos, selfishness, frustration.. and that art might help alleviate those and lead to heightened acceptance, humility and enlightenment, then indirectly art fights war and stupidity.

you can say the same thing about money, sobriety and good bread.

money soothes pain.
sobriety fights war and stupidity.
good bread isn't just like good bread, it is good bread!

you can insert just about anything in the place of art.
education, dry socks, horseradish- the possiblities are endless.

to me, art is a guy with a crazy haircut who makes bad music with paul simon, who's really not a good musician himself except for that one song he had in "GRACELAND", the one where chevy chase was in the music video. man, chevy chase used to be funny - did anyone ever see that scene in Fletch where he makes that guy slap himself on the ear and make high pitched noises to scare off the poisonous ants? good grief that was some funny shit. if I ever direct a movie, I'll bring back chevy chase, the way tarantino brought back john travolta... who the heck needs john travolta?? the man has no skills. I bet chevy chase could kick his ass.

seriously though, art is only cool when it involves high budget special effect movies.

Art is everything...

The cheapest art is found everywhere you look. Once train your eye..suddenly everything becomes Art..mundane sounds become music..

Art is any form of self expression that you want it to be! Many people think of art only when they see a Monet or a Renoir. No, art can be a a whispered word, a composed thought, or even a silent gesture. It is whatever is in your heart that you can express uniquely your way.

zenjew- now that youve publicly committed yourself to 'for sure' coming back, ill be expecting your insightful (poetic?) comments :)

s.j. - youre right!
-money soothes the pain of credit card companies, corporate monsters, college loan creditors...everyone except me!
-sobriety probably does help in fighting wars and stupidity (someone should probably write a SOBRIETY manifesto!)
-and well.. good bread is good bread (unless its made with bad carbs)!
and youre right, you can insert just about anything, and if it doesnt make sense, you can alwasy just call it art :)

frumgirl - ...even when it comes from madness

joe in nyc - long live chevy chase (and xmen and salty oatmeal)

david - yup, clearly evident from your inspirations.

lv - venting as a form of art? why not?

great post, great blog.

art can be anything and everything... my favourite quote is 'reality is for people lack imagination' and i think art is the imagination coming into reality.

and god is the greatest artst. nothing does fits all that stuff like a real live waterfall or a rose garden or lilys on the grass or in a pond. or a little green frog, or a monarch butterfly. a painting can't do the real thing justice. some poetry comes close ;). paintings I just like people.

Sarah:
great quote, beautiful blog you have!

trixies86:
i agree about G-d but i dont think that art such as paintings and drawings.. is trying to imitate the real thing. that would defeat the purpose of art. a real waterfall is an incredible creation, and a painting of a waterfall can be the beautiful expression of powerful and passionate emotions the artist feels.

socialworker/frustrated mom:
good for you! the reason i like that manifesto is because it brings the focus of art back to expression and creativity instead of financial and competition. enjoy nurturting your creativity

the only way i know:
i know, isnt it awesome :)

I don't get pulled in by art generally. except I used to for the one in my living room. I usually just get pulled in by the real thing.

I believe that if you are creative in one area then creativity spills over into all other areas.

Hence art begetting other forms of art.
